Mazagat's Teachers 2013

Manca Pavli

(Slovenia)

Manca Pavli - is teaching Tribal Style Bellydance (more about Tribal style) and oriental dance technique inspired by the Suhaila Salimpour's format in Slovenia and abroad. The biggest impact on her dance style and teaching techniques has been Rachel Brice, a tribal dance star from San Francisco, whom Manca has cooperated with for the last 3 years as an assistant at her Costa Rica retreats. She has been teaching Tribal style for many years and has had numerous classes and workshops in Slovenia and abroad. Manca is also a Suhaila Salimpour's Level 2 certified dancer.

She first met with oriental dance at Andrea - Vitali Zanardi's in dance school Miki. She soon began to attend dance workshops of various dance instructors in Slovenia and abroad. Among others she learned about oriental dance from Sabuha Shahnaz (Germany), Helena Eriksen (USA), Špela Stramšek, Eva Stramšek (Hilal), Maša Kagao-Knez (african dance), Petite Jamilla (USA), Vesna Jevšenak, Ujwal Bhole (joga)... The turning point at the begining of her dance career was her research project called: »Oriental dance in Slovenia«, through which she has learned a lot about oriental dance, its development and current conditions in Slovenia and abroad. That is why she decided to study Etnology and cultural antropology and got acquainted with Bayani group, which she joined in 2006.

As soon as Manca first saw Tribal style, she fell in love with it and soon her education concentrated on Tribal stylization. Her biggest inspiration is Rachel Brice, who has had the biggest impact on her dance path, because she was her first and most important Tribal style teacher. She has also studied with Tribal Feat group (USA) in Budapest, Jill Parker (USA) in Dillenburg (Germany), Maja Lacković, Zagreb (Croatia), and in Slovenia with Susan Frankovich (USA). She learned new dance techniques and approaches with Suahila Salimpour, who is making a revolution in oriental dance techniques all over the world.

In Milan she concentrated on studying Tribal style with Rachel Brice again and after that with Heather Stants and Lorraine Hanson (USA, Urban Tribal group). Also in Milan she visited the first Bellydance stars festival, where she attended workshops with Kesia Elwin, Amar Gamal (USA) and Sharon Kihara (USA, The Indigo group). She followed Rachel Brice to Rotterdam, Berlin and Blackpool, and joined her as an assistant at intensive workshops in Costa Rica in 2007.

To concentrate on dance and yoga more intensively, she spent several months in San Francisco, which is the center of Tribal style. She was studying at FatChanceBellyDance studio, with Mira Betz, Frederique, Zoe Jakes, Ariellah Alfalo and other influential Tribal style instructors. She also acquired Suhalia Salimpour's Level 2 certificate.

As a tribute to all of her teachers and inspirations she created an international show Orient Under Construction - a modern vision of oriental dance with a team of over 30 dancers. The show was a big hit in Ljubljana, Zagreb and Maribor and got a great mass of praise.

She first started teaching classes in Miki dance shool and later in Celje (Dance school Plesni val), and she is currently teaching classes in Kamnik and Ljubljana within KOUD Bayani. She is organizing various thematic workshops in Slovenia and abroad every month and is performing at different shows and festivals. She is continuing her education and is attending workshops in Slovenia and abroad. In association with KUOD Bayani, she organizes different workshops with guest instructors from abroad.
